BarRoom Heroes – 6 Song EP
The BarRoom Heroes are three young guys (12-13 years old) who were inspired by the Dropkick Murphy’s while “still in the womb” to play punk rock in the original spirit of bands like The Sex Pistols, The Ramones and The Clash. They had to wait a few years for “their fingers to grow” and to be able to reach the drums but once physically able they seemed more than dedicated to their task.
And their task (as probably it is for a lot of bands) is to catch the original spirit of punk and hardcore and bring it into this century. I think these guys are actually better equipped than most in doing this for the simple fact that they are so new to their instruments that they are at the level of what a lot of English punk bands, who were just learning to play, were at in 1977.
So if you get past the novelty and really listen to these guys you can hear the fun, passion and excitement of punk and its heart and soul. I was there at the beginning and no other local band takes me back to that place than The BarRoom Heroes.
This 6 song ep is pretty much a demo but for the technical requirements of punk rock I think it fits the bill. One of my favorite songs is “Punk Rock In The UK” which is just a straight ahead driving punk anthem in the style of the Pistols or the Ramones -Want to sound like Sid Vicious- It’s a snarling, bursting blast of energy that makes you want to pogo your life away- Don’t listen to JFK/Punk rock is here to stay.
My favorite though is “Outta Weymouth” which starts with a guitar lick that sounds like it’s from a lost Buzzcocks single. It goes into a rousing verse with “Wooh-oh-oh’s” leading to a stop where they sing “Outta Weymouth” and then the guitar starts up again and I’m just lifted out of my seat, fists pumping, jettisoned into the atmosphere crashing headlong into a meteorite- devastating, but lots of fun!
I also really like “Cut Back” which may be their slam at the adult music establishment but I like to take as a comment to any adult established institution- We are the future/ Don’t hold us back/ We are your future/ Enough of this crap. Enough of reading my crap, check them out why don’t cha?
