By The Throat – Riders Of Boards (4 Song CD)
Yeee Haaaw, muh fuh’ers … it’s time to do some serious talkin’ about a way cool hardcore punk band out of Boston that goes by the name of “By The Throat”. In two words, these guys ROCK OUT!!!! …and…, I think that about sums it up, ….I’m done….
Eerr…,uuhh…, well, since I have a little more time, let’s dive in a bit deeper, shall we. Back in the 70’s and 80’s there were rockin’ hardcore bands like Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedy’s, Minor Threat, Angry Samoans and Dag Nasty. Straight ahead, aggressive rock with no bullshit. When it’s done right, the energy and atmosphere created can’t be beat. It’s like listening to the Ramone’s live. Nothing compares to it. And the four guys in By The Throat; Niff on vocals/guitar, Sean on guitar, Chris on bass and Chris (alias Mr. Shuh) on drums, definitely know how to do it right. I could listen to these guys all day, every day. I just witnessed them play an awesome set at the church (you can catch my write up here), which I think was their best effort thus far. And their new 4 song EP, “Riders Of Boards” will give you a great taste of what their band is all about.
The first track is the title of their CD “Riders Of Boards” and gets the ball rolling the right way. It’s a frenzied anthem-esque attack that elicits visuals of crazed skate boarders flying across every obstacle imaginable. Straight ahead and driving. Crank it up and rock out…

It reminded me a bit of the Ramones version of California Sun (…but I’m not sure why). Cool tune. Keep crankin’ it and check it out….

It’s a tune that not only rocks out in fine style, but also brings back lots of cool memories for me of days gone by, but not forgotten. It throws me back to the Rat, the Channel, the Underground,…you name it, back in the mid 80’s ,… listening to all the cool hardcore bands that started it all. All of whom would be very proud of how “By The Throat” gets it done. I wish I could play it for you, but I can’t since BTT has not embedded it anywhere.
