Livver – “Fuck You Pay Me”

Sir, please try to tell me what happened, at least as far as you can remember?

Alright, officer, I’ll do my best?

I remember being in a daze. My head hurt. I knew I couldn’t move. My arms and legs were bound in some fashion to the chair I was sitting on. Something was covering my head, like a bag, keeping my eyes in constant darkness. I could hear faint voices. Suddenly, the bag was ripped from my head. A bright light shoved in my face. My vision blurred, a low guttural voice broke the silence. It demanded, “Give me the code. what is the code?” A violent slap raced across my face. The chair and I nearly toppled to the floor from the force…

Excuse me, sir, but I’m going to have to stop you there. What exactly does this have to do with Boston metal/hardcore artist, Livver and their first full length release, “Fuck You Pay Me”?

Well that’s just it. “Fuck You Pay Me” by Livver is such an incredibly awesome album it’s driving people crazy. Containing ten magical gems of blasting excitement, folks will do anything to get their hands on it. These dudes thought I had a secret Bandcamp code to download the album for free (at http://livver.bandcamp.com/). But I didn’t have it. So they beat me severely, until I eventually passed out. When I came too, I was in excruciating pain and my liver was gone. I couldn’t believe it. Those bastards stole my LIVER! But the jokes on them.

Why’s that sir?

Well If you knew where my liver’s been, you’d understand.

I see sir, but enough about your liver, can you tell me more about the band Livver?

Livver is the latest musical endeavor by veteran promoter/guitarist Robin Goodhue (ex. Coleman, Kill Ratio, Defcon 4) and his long time Portland-ite, drummer Morgan Berns. Who, together with vocalist Bruce Bettis and bassist Aarne Victorine formed Livver in 2010.

I see. Can you tell me more about “Fuck You Pay Me”?

Pay you for what? I don’t think I like your tone.

No sir, the album, “Fuck You Pay Me”.

Oh yah, sorry. Well it’s a great album. Lot’s of speed and energy. Most songs clock in at around a minute and a half, so don’t blink. Somewhat along the lines of grindcore. But there’s more, much more. It has a hypnotic affect that can draw you in and drive you mad. Hey, what-a-ya-say I play a few tunes so you can hear for yourself.

This one’s called, “Torch The Arsonist”. It emanates with a rollicking swagger that compels your head to move back and forth uncontrollably. The urgency builds until you’re sure your head will explode.

And this one is called, “Surf Tsunami”, which washes over you with wave after wave of blaring guitar riffery. Inching ever higher as it progresses upward until it completely engulfs your mind and senses.

And then there’s “Parasite” that crawls up your leg and inserts itself into the nearest orifice it can find. Once attached to the host, it will control its prey to whatever ends it sees fit.

So that’s what it sounds like, what do you think? Uhh dude…, officer? Are you OK? Hey, what are you doing … why are you pointing your gun at me? … Officer? … Hey get your hands off me. Why are you cuffing me? Oh no, you’ve been affected too.

Sit down and listen carefully. I must have that album, “Fuck You Pay Me” by Livver. Give me the download code immediately or I will be forced to beat you severely.

Hey Dude, I told you already, I don’t have the code. Geesh, what’s with you cheap skates. It’s only 5 buck for a digital download.

Really, only 5 bucks? Uh…, er…., um… sorry, I gotta go now.

Hey dude, wait…, hang on,…what about the cuffs?
