Razormaze – Miseries

Razormaze  – Miseries EP

Back in early 2010, Razormaze released a 3 song EP named, “Miseries”, but unfortunately  TNB didn’t exist back then and didn’t get a chance to check it out. But, since we’re about to release a wicked cool interview with Razormaze (you can check it out, here), we thought it might be a good time to also talk a little bit about their music as well. So basically, we’re gonna get Sherman to set the way-back machine to 2010 and throw in our 2 cents worth with respect to “Miseries” right here and now.

First of all, here’s a little bit of background info. Who is Razormaze, you may ask? Well, Razormaze is a wicked cool thrash metal band out of Boston that has been around since 2007. It’s members consist of Alex Citrone on vocals and guitar, Nick Lazzaro on drums, Sam Nevin on bass and vocals, and David Carlino on guitar (you can find more info about Razormaze by visiting their profile on our site, here). TNB has had a band profile for Razormaze almost since the beginning (…of TNB, that is). And why is that, you may ask? Well, simply put, because we really like them and obviously think they’re a wicked cool band (… and we think, once you hear them, you’ll like them too). We really dig their energy, their talent, their style and their enthusiasm. And as far as their music goes, their 3 song EP, “Miseries”, totally exemplifies all those same great traits … IN FUCKIN’ SPADES. So let’s get to it.

Karma In/Karma Out starts out the frenzied excitement with a straight ahead double beat in the face leading into a progressive guitar riff to the nuts and we’re off and running (… or at least limping really fast). Alex kicks starts the vocals with an awesome scream Vince Neal would be proud of. And then it’s a mad hatter’s race to the finish line with driving vocals, cool hardcore synchronized choruses, and the Razormaze trademark, biting guitar riffs that send us skipping precariously on a tight rope walk above the maze just before flinging us back down for one last vocal-go-round (…presumably, to find the cheese before the razors get us). Great way to start. Have a listen:

They keep the excitement flowing with their next tune, Creed of Absolution. It starts out with cool synchronized progressive guitars playing to a driving hardcore beat that moves at a blistering pace. Then the vocals kick in and keep up the frenzied pace, …that is, until, … we hit “ABSOLUTION” and depart into a short funky little metal ditty that leads into an insane guitar solo that eventually deposits us back to where we started. And when the smoke clears … we’re exhausted. Have a listen:

But wait, we have one more song left, Miseries of the Flesh, which seems to embody all the excitement of the first two songs in one. It starts out with a medium speed cool guitar progression and drum beat that eventually tightens into a driving hardcore rhythm with frenzied vocals and a hooky chorus (…miseries of the flesh…). And then, all mayhem breaks loose when a fevered driving guitar riff takes hold and pushes us over the proverbial cliff. And once the riff subsides…, we are sympathetically parachuted back down to the insane sanity of the vocals and hooky chorus for one last pass. Way cool song. Have a listen:

And so, in summary, Razormaze’s 3 song EP, “Miseries” is truly an all out onslaught of the senses, in a very good way (…but you didn’t need me to tell you that, you heard it for yourself). And after listening to it once, I can only think of one more thing to do, …. CRANK IT THE FUCK UP, and play it again … and again … and again. Awesome stuff.

Razormaze released “Miseries” for free so everyone can head over to http://razormaze.bandcamp.com/album/miseries and download it now. I can’t wait for their next release. Definitely check them out when you can.

Later,

(Andy Bang)
