Restraining Order – “Restraining Order”

Restraining order is how, most of my relationships with women, end.

And before you jump to conclusions. (I prefer to prance to in conclusions, generally myself). No!- you see it’s me getting restraining orders against the women.

Once they experience the ecstasy induced by The Slimedog- Well, they can never face relinquishing those exquisite sensations- My manly, presence and essence. My debonair allure causing decadent delight.

So now that I’ve, obviously, discredited any semblance of belief in my credibility-

Please, ignore all that- though it is possible you will, at one point,  be summoned to court for reading that-  let me relate that Restraining Order is an awesome hardcore punk band from West Springfield, MA.

I feel their music is influenced by early hardcore before The Cro-Mags hijacked it. Before it was adapted to the heavy hardcore/metal realm that it, mainly exists in today.

I think, and I use that term lightly, that this band is more aligned with bands such as Minor Threat, Bad Brains and Circle Jerks- it’s hard driving, hardcore music and vocals- mixed with some rockin’, rollin’ rhythms, too.

The vocals don’t derive their inspiration from death metal but more like the original bands- you know, that higher pitched, escapee from the mental hospital kind of tone. And that is a style, as being a current escapee, that I’m more attuned to.

So instead of wasting time by sending hundreds of emails to the current crush of your dreams, let us all take a pause and listen to what this band has to say:

With a few crashing chords, a trebly burbling bass and drums that come rushing in like a speeding locomotive-“Upper Class Bum,” flies in with a charging, hardcore rhythm and a machine gun, rat-a-tat vocal. The beat is rushed, the vocals explode in your ears and the guitars comes stinging in like toxic mosquitoes. This song is a pure, propulsive, passionate portrayal of pandemonium. There’s a breakdown that leads to the ending part that really rocks out majestically. Great tune.

After a short intro, “Check Off The List” is off to the races with a driving beat and intense vocals. The power and passion pulsing through this music is tight and thrilling. The ending of the song has some smashing, bashing, hard rock and you can cross it off your list, if it was another great song you had there.

“Your life sucks and I got to pay…ruin my day,” so begins “Better Luck Next Time,” an intensely, awesome display of creativity, anger and force that is equal to the best of the early hardcore and punk bands. Throw a bit of Oi influence in there, too- while you’re at it.. “So you can just go away.” But I’m drawn to the cyclone of excitement, energy and exasperation that exists in this song. “I can’t take this anymore. Take your ego and find the door.” I tried to take my ego and leave, but my head didn’t fit through the door frames! This is like a great early, British punk song. I’d also say, this is one of the best songs that I’ve heard this year.

“Pointing At The Mirror” starts with four chords, rocking out greatly- but soon you can just imagine the mosh-pit erupting in front of your eyes, as limbs and bodies soar through the air right in front of you. There’s a slight break in the middle of the song and then it returns to the jack hammer rhythm of the beginning. This song rocks out in the end- with wonderful, hard hitting beats, slashing along with the chugging guitars, completing a collection of awesome tunes.

On their tags this band just mentions “hardcore” and “punk.” But I think Oi would be appropriate to add, as there’s lots of rock’n’roll rhythms in their music and a lot of English style punk vocals, as well.

I just think they have a great mix of early punk and hardcore along with some hard rock and Oi and we can quibble about their influences but my conclusion is- that they sound fucking great.

So while I go prance along with my in conclusions, leaping through corn fields and riding my horse on the merry-go-round of life-

I’d advise you to listen to Restraining Order.

And no worries!- you can listen to them as many times as you want-

Without police interaction.
