The Car Bomb Parade – “For The Brigade”

The Car Bomb Parade is a hardcore punk band from New York City that we’ve reviewed several times before.

What is most memorable about this band was when they were scheduled to play a show at The Midway for the first time.

A fellow dressed in a Catholic priest frock entered the club and happened to ask me where the men’s room was?

I directed him and thought- he’s probably in one of the bands. But Hey!- he could be a priest who has lost his flock while dressed in his frock and needs some much- needed relief for his cock.

As it turned out, he was the lead singer of The Car Bomb Parade.

After making his benedick-tions he proceeded to listen to my confession of sins. (“Bless me father for my sins, it’s been forty-eight years since my last confession, I hope you don’t have a short attention span.”)

He proceeded to forgive me, just as long as I gave his band a fair shake.

So Hell, Yeah! I did my ten thousand Hail Marys, my four thousand Holy Ghosts and had a helluva time watching his bands wild, exciting performance.

But let us now pray as we receive their musical sacraments:

“The Purpose” starts with an intro that seems to be balancing on a tightrope of- “Is this a thrash metal song or maybe, a punk hardcore tune?”

Or perhaps this song is merging onto the power violence/ grindcore lane or is it actually, exiting to a more traditional hardcore punk exit?

Well, Yes!- to all above. This is anger, this is questioning, this is powerfully, potent words and music not dodging the bullet but going headlong into the battle.

“Car Bomb Parade, sexual and crazed. I wanna see some blood. And eyes a-crazed. Naked and in flames.”

I wanna hear more songs so crazed and intense and great as this tune.

“Be Your Own God” begins with a chiming, melodic guitar riff and a rhythm that appears to be holding back but soon leaps for your throat and perhaps, your ears with scorching fury, ripping into you like a ravenous
wolf.

“I believe you are infinity. A torch, a pyre, insanity.” This song rocks and pulverizes and offers some wise advice as well. “Live for today, nothing to miss. Be your own God.” Or make your God the love and goodness in what you believe and of what you see in others, or even in songs that are as great as this one.

With a killer beat and a murderous guitar riff “Murder Party” rips out like a Texas Chainsaw Massacre devotee on just another evening stroll. This song has the beat and feel of a more traditional punk song with its slammin’ surf beat and guitar hammering into your soul.

“Drinks in the morning till the sun comes down…Tell the girls downtown to bring drugs, guns and knives…Everybody murder party! We are the night.” This is the craziest song on the release and also, my favorite. Some more lyrics:

“The one true love is chaos. Fire in our land. In the backyard, fireworks. Blowing off our hands. And we live by the night. Fading out, losing sight. Whole world stacked against us. But soon they’ll see that…We are the night.”

We are the night. We are the glorious, motherfucking turn to darkness. That is, actually, the truth of the night blocking out the optimistic lies of the sun that reflect life in its sanctimonious, hypocritical cheerfulness that
all is right and nice in the world while sin and desire await to spring forward in the darkness.

So The Car Bomb Parade carouses off into the night, wielding Molotov Cocktails of sound onto parked cars while the just citizens sleep unaware of the wreckage and destruction this band seeks.

Perhaps not of property but of what society tries to control, tries to conceal- all the hypocrisy, all the hatred, all the corruption that society feeds us- while denying the true feelings, the true beliefs forcing us to bow down to its archaic rules and processions.

Me, I drink in the morning (I work second shift till midnight) not till the sun comes down, or even up- But let me drink a toast now to The Car Bomb Parade.

As Oscar Wilde once wrote a song for Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders to sing called, “Message Of Love”. (He copped the title from Hendrix).

“We are all of us in the gutter. Some of us are looking at the stars.”

But all of us are fighting the good fight no matter what time of day you work or sleep or drink, because all of us are against a society that is unjust, cruel and immoral but, I believe, we will win out in the end, not just because we are right but because-

We are the night.
