The Pity Whores – Quarter Life Crisis
Contrary to popular belief, ‘The Pity Whores’ is a local punk band from Foxborough, MA consisting of Wyatt Peterson on guitar/vocals, Matt Lisowski on drums/vocals, and Rory Peterson on bass/vocals (band profile here). Having appreciatively entertained the music fans of Boston for the past half dozen years or so, you can usually catch one of their great live performances at the Midway Cafe in Jamaica Plain (surely one of Boston’s finest music establishments). Perhaps best known for their outstanding appearance on the Jerry Springer show back in May of 2009 (here’s a link to the video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGxsUQD3_2E), their high energy, tongue-in-cheek style have kept fans laughing all the way to the mosh pit.
A while back, The Pity Whores released a cool CD titled, ‘Quarter Life Crisis’, which is available for download from the following link (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/PityWhores). If you’re wondering what the CD sounds like, you’ve come to the right place. Talk about value for your download, the CD has 16 tracks with enough variety to interest even the most finicky of punk rock enthusiasts. Most of the tunes seem to fall into one of two musical genre buckets. There’s the patented Boston garage punk rockin’ drinkin’ tunes (ala’ DarkBuster) and then there’s the more straight ahead Ramones/Dickies punk power pop tunes with a tad bit of Dictators humor thrown in. Most tunes are fairly melodic in nature and some even throw in a few 50’s hooks (a bit of ol’ time rock n’ roll for ya). As you might guess, my favorites songs tend to lean a bit towards the “bang’ier” side and, just to whet your appetite, it’s probably a good time to share a few of them with you.
“Stuck On TV‘ is an up tempo ditty reminiscent of one of the great early punk bands out of LA called, “The Dickies”. With a similar style of high energy campy humor, The Pity Whores will have you pogo’ing into the mosh pit in no time.

And for all the “Ramones” enthusiasts, there’s the short and sweet (very), ‘I Wanna Be Al Capone‘.

From the title of the next tune, ‘Labotomy‘, you may think it’s a cover a “Ramones” great tune, but it’s not. Instead it’s feel is more along the lines of “The Dictators”, which turns out to be a very fine tune, indeed.

And last but definitely not least, The Pity Whores do a great cover of a GG Allen classic (if there is such a thing) called, ‘Bite It You Scum‘. So stand back (or up) an repeat after them, ….BITE IT YOU SCUM….
