Fast Times – “In The Key Of Dynamite”
Just as crazy about punkin’ hardcore music as us crazies over here at TNB?
Chompin’ at the bit for an exciting evening of live, in-your-face, high energy, head bangin’ music to get your juices flowing and to put that shit eatin’ grin on your face?
Well luckily, there’s plenty of new and exciting young talent around town to fit the bill. High on the list has to be bands like Tensor, Red Tape, The Trans Fats, and, of course, The Red Line Rebels (to name a few).
But if you’re looking for the best in Cape Cod punkin’ hardcore, you need look no further than an exciting 3 piece punk band from Hyannis, MA known as Fast Times. Consisting of veteran musicians of Cape Cod’s tight knit punk and metal community, Fast Times is well versed in the finer art of straight edge, smash mouth hardcore.
Having seen them several times over the past few months, I must say, it’s not hard to understand how easily it is to loose all control of one’s bodily functions during one of their exciting shows (poor Jimmy Thrash inadvertently lit his pubic hair on fire while head bangin’ to ‘Taco Night’). And now, fortunately for all of us, we can now loose control of our bodily functions right at home since Fast Times has recently released their first full length CD called “In The Key Of Dynamite”.
“In The Key Of Dynamite” is an 8 tune, highly charged, rocket ride that includes 3 explosive tunes previously released on Fast Times’ demo EP (also reviewed by TNB). “In The Key Of Dynamite” can be downloaded from Bandcamp’s website right here. But in the interim, let’s dive head first into TNB’s virtual mosh pit and check out a few of these great tunes right now.
“All Out Of Ideas” starts off with separate splashes of guitar, bass and drums fighting to catch up with one another, which luckily they eventually do to our joyous delight. The result is a straight ahead hard driving head banger that Government Issue would be proud of.

“Keep To Course” begins with a nice boppin’ base line that is soon joined by guitar and drums. But I think the best part is Nick’s inflective vocalizations. Eat your heart out Jello B.

You almost get the feeling that “No Interest” is gonna be an instrumental as Nick drives out an Agent Orange-like guitar riff for several bars. But then a tune develops that sounds like something only vintage Bad Religion could conjure up.

“Livestock” proves once again that simple straight ahead goodness is, well, goodness. Keep up or you’ll be left in the dust.

Fast Times plays fast, furious, fun Cape Cod punk rock music. They’re best experienced live, but if you can’t, then “In The Key of Dynamite” is the next best thing.
