M-13 – “Nowhere”

Whoa, we got some new M-13 not even released yet (May 13) and not even Christmas ’cause what else would I want waiting under my tree; unless it was Mila Kunis and a bottle of Jagermeister. (Already half consumed by her, I need every break I could get!)

But I’ll settle for this new 7-inch (Mila would have to settle for considerably less) and it’s only three songs but it’s a full rocket-ride of sonic pleasure that is well worth playing three times in one sitting to get your fill. (Mila would have to settle for considerably less).

It doesn’t get any better than this- Well, Yeah -seeing them live; Bang and I agree this is the best live band on our site BAR NONE. And nuns should never be allowed in bars.

This is angry, politically charged hardcore that fits into a similar mode of another great New England hardcore band, Opposition Rising.

This band has the intensity and seriousness of metal plus the energy and power of punk; but make no mistake, this is no metal/punk hybrid. This is old-school hardcore- pure, raw and stuffed down your throat! (Unfortunately, no Brazilian samba influence but you can’t have everything).

Propelled by probably the best drummer on our site, Ken, who guides the band in a crushing Slayer-like precision that complements the abrasive, cutting guitars of Gerry, Mike and Al topped off with the diabolical, decimating vocals of Rich -what more could you want?

Well, I want Mila and Jagermeister…..and Brazilian samba musicians dancing out of my asshole with trumpets and clarinets…..but you can’t have everything.

But what I got is three great tunes…..But I’m only passing out two. Let me say it was a very hard choice as they’re all equally great but you gotta get the record to hear all three.

I did and it left me in such a twisting, spas-mastic state that I wrote a review like this- let’s give a listen.

“Nowhere” shoots out of somewhere with a regurgitating scream nestled in a bed of guitar fuzz that then explodes into a white hot fireball soaring through your speakers whipped along by the charging drums. The guitars and bass brutally bombard the song by all sides while the call and response vocals are a battle cry of sonic war. A short pause in the verse just to hammer another spike into your membranes than all cylinders go once more. A breakdown which ends with some sweet, bluesy guitar licks than were accelerating off the rails in an angry, euphoric, madness rush again.

“Overloaded” is aptly named as its pile driving, intense, immense energy sounding a bit like Rob Zombie experiencing a brain aneurysm. Buzzing guitars, pushing and slicing drums, sinister sounding call and response vocals- this tune is almost more old school high energy rock than old school hardcore but I’m not complaining. There’s a breakdown with some great ripping, shredding, screaming vocals until the electrical switch is thrown again and the adrenalin push ignites once more into a high voltage scream-a-thon to the finish.

M-13 is one of the many great hardcore bands from Connecticut and they, along with Damn Broads, are at the head of the pack. Check them out live if they’re in your vicinity and check them out with your ears- where will you find better music?

Nowhere.
