USA Waste – “7 Inch Split”

USA Waste – “7 Inch Split”

USA Waste is a band I’ve only seen a couple of times but I’ve been impressed whenever I’ve seen them. They hail from Bangor, Maine but do seem to pass through this neck of the woods often as they appear to tour a lot. They play hardcore in a traditional style but also put their own spin on it. They remind me a bit of the Connecticut band, Cry Havoc, not in that they sound alike but both bands use the style of traditional hardcore to create a distinct, original style.

They are a trio and sound very professional, (maybe because they’ve been around since 1999), but in a good way- not a slick, boring way. These three songs are from a split seven inch made with Abortive Issue. Take a listen and I’d recommend checking them out when they pass your way.

“On The Clock,” starts out with the guitar just checking out the perimeters. Once the coast is clear and safe, the rhythm section and the vocals saunter in. The rhythm is restrained at first then it’s explodes into double time like an adrenaline shot through the bloodstream. Then the reins are drawn back in, the guitars and rhythm grooving, then once again its knock down the barriers, upturn the tables time crashing headlong into madness- a great tune.

Some quiet guitar arpeggios for all of three seconds and then we’re taken on a wild dash through the streets in a stolen police car that’s on fire! Drum beats rolling, background vocals bellowing, rhythm slowing down at times just to throw in a chorus or give a pause before the ripping verse slices through your mind, once again. My pick for best song of a strong three and they even tack on an ending that makes me think of Alice Cooper’s “I’m Eighteen.”

Red Tape, you may know, is a song by the great Circle Jerks. It’s the name of a fine young band on our site, as well. USA Waste shows their good taste in covering this song and shows their skill in rendering a worthy version of the original. The rolling drums collide into the speakers, the vocals bark out their commands and the guitars just slash merrily away. Check out these songs and remember- NO MORE RED TAPE!
