A while ago the Slime-meister and I were at our favorite watering hole checking out a few metal bands, when, who to our wondering eyes should appear (had to get the holiday reference in), but this awesome local metal band called “Death Rattle”.
Well, to make a long story even longer, they shaked, rattled, and rolled all over the Midway, turning us into immediate fans. Recently, they released their first full length CD called, “Man’s Ruin”, which contains 10 awesome tracks that are sure to knock you off your seats, leaving only a nasty stain behind. Speaking of nasty stains, you’d better get prepared ’cause here comes “Doomsday”. How apropos.
[audio:https://www.thrashnbang.com/wp-content/music/02-Doomsday.mp3|titles=Doomsday]Death Rattle is the spawn of Ryan VanderWolk on lead Guitar, Jimmy Cossette on rhythm guitar, Chris Morin on drums, Donnie Lariviere on vocals and Matt DiCicco on bass. If comparisons are to be drawn, it’s hard to ignore their Pantera-like groovy-ness nor the fact that their name was taken from a Pantera tune contained on the great album, Reinventing the Steel. With double bass blasting excitement, Death Rattle plays mostly medium paced tunes with blistering guitar riffs surrounded by non-stop percusion action. The vocals blend a nice combination of growly death with blackened squealing. Check out the awesome guitar solo on this next tune called, “In Memory Of…”.

But fortunately for him, quick-witted bartender Jill has leaped over the bar with a couple of metal paddles to shock him back to life. Nice work Jill! OK let’s get back to Death Rattle and “Man’s Ruin”. I think my favorite tune on the CD is called “Sociopath” for obvious reasons.
