A Minor Revolution / Red Line Rebels / USA Waste / Union Boys
Radio (Moe’s Lounge), Somerville, 11/3/2012

The following is another glowing example of yesterday’s people bringing you today’s news with the technology of the future. Using our cellphones, Slimedog and Dr. Andy Bang, communicate with each other in a manner we call “texting.” And while doing so we discuss a recent musical performance that we attended.

We predict that this texting will catch on in the fairly near future. I, myself, find it very useful while driving; Andy uses it while performing brain surgery. But we must stress- DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS AT HOME- unlike brain surgery dual texting reviews is a dangerous procedure!

So sit back and prepare to have your eyes and minds opened to a gateway to the future, to a vast galaxy of new ideas and strange beginnings. And please, no talking when the lights go down.

Slimedog- That was your first time at Radio. What did you think of it?

Andy Bang- Well, we were downstairs which was a bit bizarre. Small room with early seventies plywood paneling decor. Tiny bar and a stage with a minimalistic sound system; all together it was pretty cool.

Slimedog- Yeah, sort of looks like where I live, minus the video game, and I think I have more beer in my fridge. I like how the “normal” bands get upstairs with the big room.

Andy- Yah and all the cool bands play downstairs.

Slimedog- Upstairs they have a full bar, big stage, big P.A.- we’re like kids in a basement while the grownups are all upstairs.

Andy- Punk is considered underground music anyway; wouldn’t be right to be upstairs.

Slimedog- I kept expecting an adult to come downstairs and tell us we were being too rambunctious and for us to settle down.

Andy- I know, too bad everybody didn’t come downstairs ’cause the show was pretty awesome for the most part.

Slimedog- They did come downstairs because that’s where the only bathrooms are. Some even stayed though most ran away in horror. First band was the Union Boys.

Andy- Yah, the Union Boys really brought it. Lots of energy and excitement.

Slimedog- I thought they were very good. More traditional punk than hardcore. I think the Union Boys are a little rough around the edges but in a good way and it was a great way to start the night.

Andy- Then came USA Waste, all the way from Maine. What did you think?

Slimedog- USA Waste, I think, is professional sounding but in a good way. I guess they’ve been around awhile. They’re hardcore but they have a unique sound, I’m not sure how I’d describe them.

Andy- I really dug their style. Definitely not traditional punk or hardcore but awesome energy.

Slimedog- Red Line Rebels were next. The most memorable part was when Jay got his head caught in the string of lights above the stage and his hat caught on fire.

Andy- One more example of Jay going the extra distance to entertain his fans.

Slimedog- Okay, now I understand. I thought it was an accident. I was relieved when the bartender doused his head with a pitcher of Miller High Life.

Andy- Thank God for the high water content in Miller.

Slimedog- Well, there goes another sponsor.

Andy- It was bass player (for the Rebels) Josh’s birthday tonight.

Slimedog- Yes, I wanted to buy him a bottle of Dom Perignon but had to settle for a Lone Star beer.
I see the Rebels a lot but their songs are so fast and short it’s like a blur, sometimes I don’t know what song it is till it’s almost over. A Minor Revolution was next.

Andy- I know what you mean. I can listen to death metal for weeks and never tell if I’ve heard the same song twice. A Minor Revolution changed things up a bit. More of a high energy pop band. How did you find them?

Slimedog- I thought they were ska punk but more ska than punk. As I like to say, good but not my thing.

Andy- Very good musicians, I thought the drummer was excellent. But kind of out of place following the first three bands.

Slimedog- We’re not mentioning the last band except I would like to see them boiled in oil.

Andy- What last band? There was another band? Oh, that must have come on when my brain aneurism kicked in. Sorry, I missed them.

Slimedog- I’m sure that they caused it. I forgot to mention no hard liquor downstairs unlike my place. I think next time I’ll bring Jagermeister and Harry The Cats mess box and I’ll feel right at home.

Andy- Good idea. All ‘n all, I thought Radio was pretty cool. I’d definitely check it out again.

Stay tuned for the next dual texting review where during it, Andy Bang performs brain surgery upon himself!
