M-13 / Damn Broads / No! / The Pity Whores
Midway Cafe, Jamaica Plain, MA 1/12/2013

Thrash N Bang recently had the pleasure of hosting our two favorite Connecticut bands, M-13 and Damn Broads, along with another Connecticut band they brought along, No! and a band from the thriving punk scene in Mongolia, The Pity Whores. It was a great show, though M-13 and Damn Broads seem to be from different ends of the punk spectrum it’s always great to see them play together.

This is a dual texting review that was conducted under controlled, scientific guidelines (at the Midway) and should not be tried at home. Texting is a potentially dangerous activity, (unless you’re driving on the highway- then it’s perfectly fine).

So sit back and be prepared for everything you know to be real to be shattered before your very eyes and your whole perception of reality to be changed in a fraction of a second for the rest of your life or eternity. Whatever comes first.

Slimedog- This is a pretty good lineup today.

Andy Bang- Definitely a good group of bands.

Slimedog- Three bands from Connecticut and one from Mongolia, the most disgusting, deplorable, despicable band since The BackStreet Boys.

Andy- Oh, is One Direction playing, as well? I can’t remember. That damn can. (Andy has a Narragansett can lodged inside his head that affects his memory).

Slimedog- Huh?

Andy- Don’t you know who One Direction is? They’re a new boy band.

Slimedog- No, I forgot we have different musical tastes. Anyways, The Pity Whores just started playing.

Andy- Oh, you were referring to those evil whores of pity.

Slimedog- Yeah, it used to seem like we covered the Red Line Rebels every week now it’s these hooligans.

Andy Yah, but it’s hard to always say positive things where these guys are concerned.

Slimedog- But their tunes are great and they’re doing a good job of getting the crowd going early.

Andy- But seriously, I think this might be the best set I’ve heard them play so far.

Slimedog- Hard for me to say as they’re always so good. And now it’s time for a damn good band.

Andy- Oh, that’s right The Damned are also playing, but I actually didn’t recall that.

Slimedog- No, it’s the Damn Broads, The Damned is at our next show we’re putting on. My favorite band and they’re starting with my favorite song (In Their Hands) as well.

Andy- I knew that. They’re a very unique band. Cool ladies playing awesome hardcore tunes.

Slimedog- Oh, no! Wyatt, the singer for The Pity Whores, just picked up into the air Riley, the singer for the Damn Broads.

Andy- Holy shit! It looks like he’s trying to attack Riley with his butt!

Slimedog- You’re right, now he just picked up Rory (bassist for The Pity Whores) over his shoulder and is parading him around with his pants half down.

Andy- Somebody just tossed over a roll of toilet paper.

Slimedog- And Lindsey (water-board instructor) just asked me to pick her up and parade her about in the same fashion but I told her “No!”

Andy- Good thing, this could get out of hand very quickly.

Slimedog- Anyways, great set by the Broads, it was good to see them. Give me a one word answer. Do you know who the next band is?

Andy- I believe they are called, No! and were brought here by M-13.

Slimedog- Hmm, that’s twelve words. No, it was Yes, the English progressive band with lyrics like, “I’m riding my butterfly through the universe.”

Andy- Oh, yah, I think they’re playing Roundabout right now. Wait a minute, that’s not Rick Wakeman.

Slimedog- No, it is No! They’re a little different than the other bands. More high energy rock. Thank God they don’t sound like Yes.

Andy- They seem to have a bit of funkiness to their vibe.

Slimedog- Now it’s time for the awesomeness that can only mean M-13.

Andy- And what an amazingly incredible set they play. Shear power and precision.

Slimedog- If Slayer were a pure hardcore band they would sound like this.

Andy- For sure, M-13 is the best. All hardcore fans should make a point of seeing them at least once.

Slimedog- Fierce band, Rich is a great menacing, frontman and I think their drummer is the best on our site, punk or metal. BTW, looks like our next show will be a metal one.

Andy- Cool, I can hardly wait. Hopefully, we’ll get as good of a crowd as we did today.

Slimedog- Agreed, and hopefully less partial nudity.

Andy- Well, unless The Pity Whores go metal that should be a safe bet.
