Thrash N Bang and WasteEdge Bookings present:

Midway Metal Matinee #1
Endless Decay/ Coffin Birth/ Crypter/ Aversed/ Begat The Nephilim

Midway Café, Jamaica Plain, MA 2/16/13

Thrash N Bang just put on its first Metal Matinee at the Midway and we couldn’t be more pleased, pleased as punch, at the bands and turnout; so we do hope to do it again. But it wouldn’t have happened without Nick and Chris from WasteEdge Bookings so please forward all hate mail to them (I have their home addresses if that at all helps).

So what follows is another dual texting review done after Andy Bang’s recent return from his working vacation in Syria. We’re seriously thinking about moving home operations over there where we, unfortunately, won’t be able to cover the New England scene anymore but what is more likely to happen is we’ll start franchises worldwide of Thrash N Bang like McDonalds; except we won’t have fries.

Sure, it’s dangerous being in Syria but what is also dangerous is dual texting so please don’t try this at home as it’s best left to the trained specialists of Andy Bang and Slimedog. Sit back, get a nice steaming cup of Ovaltine in your mitts, tilt your head back and rewind- and that head will soon be spinning as we take you on the mind blowing, futuristic, amusement park ride in your mind known as dual texting.

Slimedog- Hey Andy how was Syria?

Andy- Things seem to be calming down a bit, only occasional sporadic gun fire and bombings.

Slimedog- How was the music scene?

Andy- Crazy. Lots of hardcore moshing. One guy lost an eye and another guy picked it up and whipped it at the band.

Slimedog- I guess bands there don’t worry about following up their hit song as they’re usually dead by then. But today we’re talking about another danger zone, a place equally explosive musically- The Midway Metal Matinee!

Andy- Yes, and what a great metal show it was. I think the Midway should become the premium metal club in Boston.

Slimedog- That would be great as they’re already the best punk club in Boston. And though TNB put on this show we have to thank Nick (from Endless Decay) for organizing this show.

Andy- Yes, and Chris Crobar with WasteEdge Bookings.

Slimedog- Yes, indeed. The first band was Begat The Nephilim, as most metal frightens me, I was cowering under a table when they started playing. What did you think of them?

Andy- I thought they were interesting. They had a very good front man. A bit on the progressive side.

Slimedog- I thought it was great that they filled in when another band canceled even though they had another gig in Syria that night.

Andy- Definitely, I’m glad they were able to play on short notice.

Slimedog- When they said “The Middle East” I didn’t think they meant that club in Cambridge.

Andy- The next band was Aversed. What did you think of them?

Slimedog- At first I thought they we’re gonna suck caused they looked a little like an indie band. But when they played I thought they were great, they were my second favorite band of the day.

Andy- I know what you mean. I thought they were technically very good. Their drummer was awesome.

Slimedog- And he had the smallest drum set I’ve ever seen in a metal band. They were an excellent death thrash band. Crypter was next, I thought they were very good though I did soil myself during their performance.

Andy-Yes, I really enjoyed Crypter. They were more a traditional thrash band with a devilish edge.

Slimedog- They made me think of Motorhead which is always a good thought. I also liked how they looked alike, sorta like a gang.

Andy- The next band was Coffin Birth which reminded me of my own birth.

Slimedog- And why is that may I ask?

Andy- Well, when I was born I wasn’t crying so they buried me in a little coffin. Some dude working the graveyard shift was blasting Sabbath, which brought me to life. He heard me singing ‘Electric Funeral’ and dug me up. The rest is history (I think).

Slimedog- What a heartwarming story and they say Ozzy causes suicides but here he raised the dead. The singer for Ciffin Birth had a fan blowing his hair even though it was twenty below outside.

Andy- Yah, I guess he was going for the Lemmy effect.

Slimedog- They did not make me think of Motorhead which is never a good thought.

Andy- Yes, for some strange reason I was thinking of ZZ Top.

Slimedog- Last band up was Endless Decay.

Andy- Endless Decay started with a bang, Crobar did an amazing job out front.

Slimedog- Agreed, people might disagree with who the best band was today but he definitely was the best front man. He sang on the floor in front of the stage and made his presence felt.

Andy- For sure. Well, I can’t wait for the next metal show. All the bands did a great job.

Slimedog- True, we did want to put on that Salsa show but that will have to wait. Hopefully, we can have another one real soon. Possibly, in Syria.
