A timorous text review by Slimedog and Andy Bang:

The first day Thrash N bang was put on the internet, but still only visible to me and Bang, was May 20, 2011. I know because that’s the day the world ended; or at least it was supposed to according to that preacher that spent millions buying billboard space last year. How did he know what we were doing?

I was talking to Swid and some other people recently about The Rapture and when that happens all the good people get sucked up to heaven and we came to the conclusion- maybe that already happened and just no one was taken from Boston and Allston; maybe just a few folks from Nebraska and Iowa got to go.

But it’s been about a year and I’ve never felt more happy and fulfilled with anything else I’ve done in my life doing this website and I don’t think I’ll find anything that will top this for myself. All the wonderful bands, fans, promoters- I know the punk and metal scenes have the best music around, that’s a given, but I feel we have the best bunch of folks and that’s everyone who reads this.

So when I saw Crazy Jay Genoa put together this great bill, I asked if we could hijack it for our party and he graciously agreed. This was a great lineup and had bands from Boston, Providence and Con-necticut, the states we have the most bands from. And lots of the bands put on their best performance that day, probably inspired by the other great sets. I know we’re a little over the top at times but we agreed this was the best show of the year we’ve seen.

The following is a dual timorous text review of that show conducted in the Boston Public Library whose address is 666 Boylston St for you metal folks. Be prepared to be shocked and amazed.

Slimedog- Why is the librarian telling me to hush?

Andy Bang- You’d better turn off the sound. Sounds like my grandmother eating braciole.

Slimedog- I’m not familiar with that word. Was that an acquaintance of hers?

Bang- Hmm, not that I know of. Anyway,I believe she removed her teeth for any deep diving.

Slimedog- Oh, a member of the Italian Scuba team which brings us to this show which was possibly the best of all time.

Bang- Yes, it was so great I’ve decided to never wash my ears again.

Slimedog- The number of times I had to wash my soiled undergarments was inconceivable.

Bang- Wow! It must have been a very special night if you actually wore undergarments.

Slimedog- True. I had seen Machine Gun Etiquette but they were much better today. Their first song was like free form hardcore.

Bang- Very free form. I’ve never seen hardcore played shoeless.

Slimedog- Yes, maybe butt-less. “Bulls On Parade” by Rage Against The Machine by them was good, also.

Bang- I thought bulls were always butt-less…But anyway, I thought MGE did a bang up job.

Slimedog- Next were Damn Broads. All girl hardcore with more balls than most all guy bands.

Bang- I thought the Damn Broads really brought it for the show and were very colorful as well.

Slimedog- They do appear visually, like an early punk or new wave band. My favorite band on our site and this was my favorite show by them. An interview with them, conducted at this show, went on the site today. Next was Red Line Rebels.

Bang- Yes, the Red Line Rebels were the best I’ve ever seen them. I think they’re playing at a new level of tightness and excitement.

Slimedog- it was definitely Jay’s best performance. All the bands seemed to rise to the great honor or horror of playing our Anniversary show.

Bang- Speaking of which, how good were the Pity Whores?

Slimedog- Yes, speaking of which, when I was about to enter the mens room, from the side, during the Rebels set; their bass player jumped out in front of me dressed in a hula girl’s outfit with a coconut bra.

(He proceeded to harass and pick up Jay during their set).

Bang- Yes, he’s quite the loony, in a good way, of course.

Slimedog- I missed a lot of their set because of doing the interview but they are one of the best live bands around.

Bang- They were very impressive. They even got the M-13’s in a good mood, which is not easy to do.

Slimedog- I’m in a good mood because I’m in a library. It is the best place in society, giving so much for free.

Bang- Yes, and it’s the best place to have sex with a mute rhinoceros.

Slimedog- I will take your word for that. M-13 are scarey. Rich is a very menacing singer.

Bang- Yes. I don’t have enough adjectives to describe how great M-13 is.

Slimedog- Best live band we have. They play as well as Slayer. They are a hardcore band with metal skills.

Bang- For sure. Their musicianship is phenomenal. Their drummer is a machine.

Slimedog- Agreed. Up last was The F.U.’s One of the first of four hardcore bands in Boston (This Is Boston Not L.A. Album). And still able to win Best New Band of the Year at Thrash N Bang.

Bang- They always do a great show even when shorthanded.

Slimedog- It was an honor for us to have them play and certainly, a horror for them, I’m sure.

Bang- Wow! Watch out for that falling bookshelf … stupid rhino.

Slimedog- Yes, I knew you shouldn’t have brought your pet rhino here and now we’re being asked to leave.

Bang- Fuckin’ rhino haters …well I guess we should leave before they call the cops.

Slimedog- Yes, or the A,S.P.C.A.

Bang- I can’t wait for the next annual TNB event. Maybe it should be next week.

Slimedog- Every week if these bands play.
