Thrash N Bang’s 3rd Annual Xmas Party

Midway Cafe, Jamaica Plain, MA 12/14/13
This show was our third annual Xmas party and it was our best yet. It’s great to have a little party/show like this as the punk community is a family and this is the time of year when families celebrate. Though I guess we do that every week, don’t we!
It was a great turnout on a day that got a bit snowy but all the bands played great, the crowd was moshing and we provided as much pizza as everyone could eat. We had such a great time you should look for another one to happen in March.
As always when we do a dual texting review we are required by the North Dakota Farming Association to warn folks of the inherent dangers so please do not try these maneuvers on your own. Leave this to the folks who are skilled and crazy enough to do it.
Sit back, relax, let the air in your body release into the air above your head and let the air float out of your ass as needed.
Slimedog- So according to my notes this is somebody’s lame Christmas party we’re going to?
Andy- Well, although it is very possible that the hosts are quite lame, this happens to be our / TNB’s Xmas party.
Slimedog- Oh, excellent. Have any of the bands arrived yet? I asked Black Flag, Black Sabbath, Black Oak Arkansas and The Black Keys to perform.
Andy- How come all the bands start with black?
Slimedog- Not really sure. I just went through the yellow pages and someone had ripped out the “A”’s.
Andy- I see. Well there are actually no bands playing today that start with black.
Slimedog- Hmm, I organized this during a black out. I think I also asked BarRoom Heroes, Bad Movies, Beth Midler and Bad Brains.
Andy- I think the only bad brain at the Midway today is the one in your head. BarRoom Heroes and Bad Movies are playing along with three other great bands.
Slimedog- Sounds great and I ordered prime rib dinners delivered for everyone here.
Andy- Wow, that’s great. I’ll take mine medium.
Slimedog- Oh no, I just realized I told them the Midway in Dedham! Oh, well I’ll just get some pizza next door. They’ll never know the difference.
(Fast Times approaches the stage)
Andy- Good idea. Looks like Fast Times is about to take the stage. They’re so good they could be closing the show.
Slimedog- Agreed. They have a very adept rhythm section with great hardcore, pop/punk guitar and vocals on top.
Andy- Did you know that Fast times has played at every one of our Xmas shows?
Slimedog- No, I do know that I’ve played with myself at every Xmas show but that’s just me getting in the Xmas spirit. They’re singing “Taco Time” but now its pizza time.
Andy- Cool. Based on that last comment, I hope my slice doesn’t include any special sauce.
(Fast Times finishes and Bad Movies takes the stage)
Slimedog- Since I’m in charge of food today I’ll refrain myself from my favorite pastime. Hey, the singer of the next band has the same hair style as you.
Andy- Yah except hers light up. I wonder where the battery is hidden. Perhaps I shouldn’t ask.
Slimedog- Yeah, Lin the singer has Xmas lights in her Mohawk and her band is lighting up the club with their traditional punk.
Andy- This is my first time seeing Bad Movies. I like their old school punk style.
Slimedog- They’re one of my favorite bands and their CD was one of the best I reviewed last year. Lots of folks are seeing them for the first time today and I’m getting good feedback. Now it’s time for our youngest band.
(Bad Movies finishes and BarRoom Heroes takes the stage)
Andy- Oh don’t tell me. It must be Red Tape.
Slimedog- Close, it’s the BarRoom Heroes who are quite the experienced band now.
Andy- Wow, how did you get the BarRooms to play at our lowly Xmas party? They’re big time now playing with the likes of the Dropkicks and Katy Perry.
Slimedog- Yeah and like Bad Movies they’re one of the few bands that remind of the early punk spirit. I just high fived them on the way to the bathroom to empty my colostomy bag.
Andy- Good thing or you’ll be mooshing instead of moshing. It’s true the BarRooms play with lots of well-earned confidence these days.
(BarRoom Heroes finishes and Seven Year Plan takes the stage)
Slimedog- Yeah, they sounded great. Now it’s time for pop/punk band Seven Year Plan.
Andy- Hmm, I wonder what year of their plan they’re at?
Slimedog- Don’t know but I believe the goal is world domination and today they sound like that is in their grasp. Last time I saw them they were a trio and now they’re a five piece.
Andy- Maybe their seven year plan is to become a ten-some?
Slimedog- Perhaps you’re right. Hey, Black Oak Arkansas just pulled up and only have time for one song. I gotta record this.
Andy- Really? Oh, too bad I have to take a mean shit or I’d stay and listen.
(Andy runs off as Black Oak Arkansas takes the stage)
(Andy arrives back refreshed just as the Pity Whores take the stage))
Slimedog- You missed a great song. Now it’s time for the Pitiful Whores. Unfortunately their drummer got temporarily deported back to Mongolia so they will play acoustic today.
Andy- I’m not too big on the acoustic sets, but I’m really diggin’ how the PW’s are doin’ it.
Slimedog- Yeah, they’re full band is great but this is pretty good. Well, this has been a great show but it seems to have gone backwards with the mellower bands at the end and fastest one at the start.
Andy- And with all the pizza consumed, the crowd started out moshing, but now are half asleep on the floor.
Slimedog- It really was our best Xmas show. Great turnout, great bands, lots of crazy moshers. We had a really fun time.
Andy- Definitely. What-a-yah say we go to the Midway in Dedham and get our prime rib.
Slimedog- Ok, but first I have to use the mens room. You see, I found the show quite stimulating…
