MOTORHEAD / HOUSE OF BLUES
I recently saw Motorhead at the House of Blues and it was, of course, a great show. If you’re attracted to this site and are reading these words I can’t imagine you not loving this band. Besides all the normal reasons I could give why this band is so great, I think one that’s unique is how hard it is to classify this band. You could call them Metal but they don’t fit in with any Metal band I can think of. I hear Speed Metal to describe them but lots of their songs are of regular speeds. Ambient techno, perhaps, but only a retard like myself would even think of that.
Lemmy starts each show with, “Good evening, we are Motorhead and we play Rock’N’Roll.” So I’ll go with that, they are a Rock’N’Roll band or as Lemmy at the show I saw put it, “Rock’N’Fuck’N’Roll,” and I think that is most accurate. Did you know Lemmy considers Little Richard, “the best fuckin’ rock’n’roll singer of all time?” It all starts to make sense, just picture Little Richard’s barking, rushing singing compared to Lemmy’s delivery and you might get the connection. Anyways, like AC/DC, another band that gets called Metal but I think is better with the term Rock’N’Roll, both bands fit my definition of Rock’N’Roll.
What is this Rock’N’Roll you speak of, Slimedog, you may ask? Well, it’s Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Bill Haley, Gene Vincent, Johnny Burnette, Jerry Lee Lewis (all I love) and it seemed to die off when “Rock” music came into fashion. Now, these Rock bands liked to talk about Rock’N’Roll but very few of them played it. I only heard it again when the 70’s punk bands started in certain bands like the Clash, X, etc. It seemed like the original spirit of Rock’N’Roll was rejuvenated with these bands. In my opinion the only popular mainstream bands playing Rock’N’Roll now are the Rolling Stones, AC/DC and Motorhead.
“You know, I’m born to lose
And gambling’s for fools
But that’s the way I like it, baby
I don’t want to live forever”
Lemmy is 65, still drinking too much whiskey, smoking too many cigarettes and playing music too loudly and basically, living his life the same as when he was 21. He also happens to be the coolest person on the planet and I can’t even think of anyone else who would even be in the running. “I may have not lead a good life, but it’s been an interesting one,” from Lemmy’s autobiography. I think I could say that myself, maybe you, too! All I know is I hope Lemmy never dies because if he doesn’t, it means we’re guaranteed to always have Rock’N’Fuck’N’Roll. Cheers to you, Lemmy.
